I learned to garden in the midwest. I'd plant a beautiful variety of vegetables in the spring that, as the summer progressed, would slowly be swallowed in weeds as I got behind in pulling them. Somehow, I always had a bountiful harvest. Gardening in southern Ohio during the summer was easy. I've been in Texas well over 20 years and I still struggle with keeping my garden alive during the hot summers. However, learning to take advantage of the extra growing season to garden in the fall has been the best thing for my green thumb.
Right now is the time to be planting your fall vegetables. Wether you grow from seed or starts, fall gardening begins late August and into September. It seems more garden stores have gotten on board with fall vegetable gardens as well and it has become easier to find cooler weather starts for things like broccoli and cabbage in the stores.
What can you plant right now?
